yes i note that he has done that although the title aelia only seems to occur in Britain?

i think sometimes his reasoning is contradictory - but it certainly the best source ive come across
<img src="http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.martin/forum/mark.gif

Hey, it's a great collection of sources, but the inevitable mistakes are definitely there.
Greets
I think I'll have a crack at a distribution list using Spaul-

fortunately he lists units for each province
<img src="http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.martin/forum/mark.gif

Prolly a good plan. And would be an interesting resource, even if you just laid out the information from all diplomas for all provinces.
Greets
I think the format is excellent but I found that the table of dates overlaid and therefore obscured some of the listings.
Let's not forget the Vindolanda tablets and the IIIrd and VIIIIth Cohorts of Batavians
theres a lot of evidence to build upon--

my plan is to first use the diplomas because they give fixed dates-- then try to put in sites appropriate to that unit at that time-- which is where vindolanda stuff comes in.

the units will then link to more detailed pages like

www.romanauxilia.com/units/can/can1.htm

Crispus did the index obscure the page info by much?
The problem seem to have cleared up now. When I first looked at the site the index hung down from the top of the page, obscured many of the unit names and did not go away when the cursor was moved to another part of the screen. Tonight it appeared on the left of the page and obligingly disappeared when the cursor was no longer passing over it.
