Just curious to know whether there exists any historical reference in terms of a chain mail pattern that is one round wire riveted ring with one punched ring used alternatively. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean, but surviving pieces of Roman mail all seem to be alternating *rows* of solid and riveted rings. The solid rings were typically punched from sheet iron, while the riveted ones were made from iron wire. The pattern is the usual "European 4-in-1". Is that what you're looking for?
