I just finished Peter Franz Mittag, Antiochos IV. Epiphanes, Eine politische Biographie (2006 Berlin). It is an excellent book, and the author convincingly argues that the king was not the tyrant he is in the books of Maccabees, nor the dangerous madman he is in Polybius. There is little to add to the review in the BMCR, except that the book is also well-produced and a pleasure to read. Recommended.
