Socks

As mentioned elsewhere, my partner makes 'naal-binding' socks to order, using authentically dyed wool. Below is an example, banded (like the late Imperial Egyptian finds) and dyed using madder, weld and tansy. If you're interested in ordering a pair, send me a message. She can do the split toed variety for wearing with sandals but they cost more (as they're a bit of a swine to make apprently).

Wonderful work. It looks liKe naalbinding, not knitting (although I'm no real authority on either, and can do neither one). Do others agree with that? I know that previously, people said that naalbinding is much later, but the loops look like the same thing as I've seen in Viking socks.

I have socks that have the same holes in the same places...figgers. Feet are the same, even if the technology changes.

Well, Anna (who's the one who makes them) is an archaeologist specialising in textiles and she says that the examples she's seen look as though they've been made by a technique that produces the same results as naal-binding...so that's what she does.
