I thought the scene in the Batman movie Dark Night where he reconstructed a fingerprint from a shell casing was science fiction, but apparently not:
MIT on fingerprinting brass and copper
Think of all the fingerprints on the brass and copper from the Romans!

Makes me think of the fingerprint marks and smudges I find on brass hardware when I receive an order of Re-enactment equipment. (Especially on shield boss and sword scabbards) I suppose from the assembly line in India?
