Setting up new group in Chicago
#1
Hello to all! I am in the process of getting together a new reenactment group in the Chicago area, as I have yet to hear much from any other local groups. We currently have a very small group of 4 people and are looking for more individuals in the area to join in.

I would appreciate any advice on helping to get this new group going, as well as any interest in joining, and any other nearby groups that we could come and visit. My plan for the group is to be early imperial, circa. 10 A.D.

I have the ultimate vision of putting together something like the Renaissance (spelling) Fairs that are conducted across the country, but set in the Imperial Roman era, basically a living Roman city with military encampment, a bit ambitious, but u gotta think big.

Again I appreciate any and all input!

Well Kev im afraid that im a bit far from chicago!! My obvious advice is to spread the word as far as possible, the more the merrier!!This can be quite helpful with kit suppliers,as far as i know, most give some form of discounts to groups etc.
Out of sight of subject shores, we kept even our eyes free from the defilement of tyranny. We, the most distant dwellers upon earth, the last of the free, have been shielded till today by our very remoteness and by the obscurity in which it has shrouded our name.

We're in Fort Wayne, IN and though we usually do late 1st century, once you get something going we would be happy to come up for a joint event. Have you contacted Legio XIV? They have members in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. Check out Legio XX's link page:

Give priority to setting up a web page with multiple contact methods.
Ask other groups to include a link on their web page. Also RAT can host your
website. Check with Jasper. For kit (and discounts) check the vendor
subforums in the RAT marketplace. The Fort Lafe event with be set in AD 9
next time so they are discussing AD period gear now.

There are active establish groups in the Chicago area.
contact [email protected] He is slow to answer his e-mail sometimes, but his group group works with ours on several events.
If he doesn't work out you could contact [email protected]
They are located just across the border in Canada. They are a fine group as well.
