Aquileia Gallic G. reconstruction
#1
Not sure if anyone else is familiar with the Gallic G from Aquileia, but here it is... All coral inlaid rosette rivets etc. Well, I have used a Deepeeka Mainz Gallic G for the basis and gutted it! (See next post)

Here's what I did.. (Not a 100% accurate copy but close)

Removed all the fittings
Filled and re-located the holes for the crest tie rings
Tinned the brow band
Made a new crest support to acommodate the new rosettes
Made all new rosettes with coral inlay.
Made new carry handle
Ground away brow guard to accommodate the rosettes.

Well perhaps you could tell me what would be the right helmet for 9AD?
Thanks,

Coolus types A - F

Gallic types A - C

Italic Types A and B

Montefortino C - F

Port and Agen types too.

There are others that were not classified by Robinson such as some of the strange Weisenau types in the helmet database (Formerly part of the Axel Guttmann collection) that would also be OK for the period.

Isn't it an idea to start producing some of these?

And so at the same time make it possible for Celtic reenactors to get a decent late Celtic helmet...
