19th centurie cavalry is indeed somewhat off topic.
Does anyone know where the mecenaries serving in the Saprtan army came from ? Any particular area ? I know thy had cretan archers and mercenarie peltast.

In the late stages of the Pelopenesian war mosto f the rowers and navigators (paid with Persian money) serving in the fleet were mercenaries and were even Ionians as the tribal clan loyalties had loosen even from 450 B.C.
