Hispaniensis?

Carving of Galdius Hispaniensis reminicent of the scabbard type from the River Ljubljanica.

This helps to show the suspension system and the hilt which is very Celtic/Gaulish ... or more properly Celtiberian :?

It's in Patara, Turkey. http://picasaweb.google.com/mrdavid.fro ... taraTurkey

Very cool! The scabbard fittings tie in very well with found examples.

The scabbard and pomel seems to be from an Hispaniensis, but the blade (form and long) not... I think.

That's a gladiatorial uniform?

I think that it's more a idealistic thing that realistic. Furthermore, that's in a theatre.

To me, it seems more to be the anthropomorphic Celtic sword.

Its definately not a gladiatorial unifiorm.

As to length its a carving, not a blue print? the form is waisted as are some Hispaniensis.

What is your point regarding a theatre?

That may well be where most Celtis hilts were styled after.

Because in a theatre the only purpose, I think, is to decorate.

Some Hispanienses have a too exaggerated ''pistiliform'' blade?
Someone can answer at that?

Seems a ''antenas atrofiadas'' sword, but in turkey... or a xiphos (because the blade).

Salve,

The form of the cuirass, the pteryges and the knotted sash all might point to the depiction of the panoply of an 'officer'.

Vale,

When have you seen a Xiphos in that type of scabbard or with a Celtic hilt and ring attachments for a baldric?

Why are you so determined that it cannot be a Hispaniensis... is it the blade shape ?

Why would it not be an officers panapoly wit ha celtiberian hispaniensis sword? If he took it as a trophy, and really like it, why would he not use it? Not beyond the relms of possibility I would imagne. The image is pretty clear I thought? :?
