You coul make a wide variety of designs from it . I am sure the simple straight rod with a globe at each end like the one I am wearing was a common design back then too. Plus twisted wire designs are common as well. There are quite a few people on here who make them as well, so I am sure there will be plenty of advice forthcomming!

Well, if you are planning on making one, it would be helpful for other people to be able to find your thread as a sort of How-to tutorial if you make it a thread of your own.

Ahah! So now it come out - Len makes the same things over and over again, and very nice the Mainz scabbards continue to look.
One thing though. Do not be tempted like our mutual friend Marinus to do some work on the soldering yourself if it ever starts to come apart (as solder often eventually does). Nicely stamped scabbard faces do not like sudden bursts of heat when they are made of pewter, rather than the tinned brass they appear to be.
