Starting an auxillia unit.
#16
The Hoffheim Italic E is now kept at Weisbaden. It is the helmet we used to make the cheek guards for the Krefeld Italic D type reconstruction. Like the D it has two tie rings beneath the neck guard at the ear guard position, and the cheek guards also have two tie rings. It is typically a first C. helmet shape.

BTW, The Krefeld I-I-D helmet was found to have the same decorative brass bands as the Worms helmet, but BENEATH the brass eye appliqués there were raised eyebrows, suggesting that it too, like the Augsburg Gallic H had undergone some changes in its lifetime. The shaping of the bowl and high angled brow portion of the bowl suggests mid first C construction, However, we have no definite dating for the deposition of this helmet unlike the other Krefeld helmet.
