After reading different post about Painted helmets and looking at The Notitia Dignitatum a question came up.
Is there any evidence that Umbo's were painted?
In the Notitia you see a lot of , what could be painted umbo's.

Is this only know from the Late Roman era, or was this also done in Augustian or Flavian time?
