Stones with holes?

Last time I was home,my wife picked up a bunch of stones like those at
Hythe and Folkstone.
I thought that they were found only at the beach. A couple of days later we found some more up on the Downs near Wye. As the Downs are all chalk I guess it must have something to do with water erosion. (Well I think so Idea ) Of course I like the magic rockworm idea too 8)
My two young boys decided they were great for stringing around your neck.Talisman style.

Such holes (especially with chalk) can have been caused by plant roots. I was told that the holes themselves also date back millennia. This is how the tribes that built megalithic monumnets got their sarsens, the started from these natural holes in the rock. Of course, hole sizes vary.
