Can you please translate into English these German shoe terms:
Google translate is not very helpful with these. Is the Uberstemme the frame that you refer to in your last calcei HOW-TO?

Salve,
I hope its ok to fill in for Martin. Translation should be roughly this:
1. Hinterteil (oder Quartier) = the (separate) rear part of the upper
2. Schaft = upper/vamp
3. Fersenverstärkung = heel reinforcement
4. Fersenkappe = a separate heel cap (rear cap)
5. Brandsohle = inner sole
6. Riester = sort of leather patch (usually used to repair); placed outside
7. Laufsohle = outsole
8. Ãœberstemme = sort of an usually inside placed lateral reinforcement to keep the form of the shoe
9. Rist = not a separate part, but upper section of the instep
10. Blatt = instep
11. Lasche = tongue
look also here. its German too, but the parts are quite good to recognise:

hope this helps for now

Hi Lee,
#1 is generally referred to in the shoe trade as a "quarter."
