I think there are lead discs in Chester and Caerleon which may be luggage tags, or maybe ID discs. Probably the former.

This is back to the dog tags that the Augusta wear but I know of no authority for these. What there are are plenty of tags and discs bearing names and units in lead or copper alloy. The Tully house in Carlisle have quite a good display of them . Some are round discs with a central hole that made me wonder if they were worn to identify an armour and its owner. The large rivets on the back plates of Lorica seem to be asking for these discs. I did put them on once but the powers that be decided there was insufficient evidence for their use and I took them off. The logic is that anyone wants to identify their kit and stop it being nicked so these marks would be widespread. In order to identify the person there is of course the option of the tatoo bearing the name and unit which would work well in an era where few military corpses would be totally obliterated or burnt unlike today.
