North American Roman Military Conference, ever??
#16
Maybe you could do a conference in coordination with the Pompeii exhibit coming to Mobile, Alabama in 2007.
Who knows, the museum might sponsor it, although it might be to late to get it set up.

Atlanta? I thought it was headed down towards Mississippi or Alabama....

I could be wrong though...

Somewhere in Alabama, I think Mobile, (if it is still there in 2007).
Actually Mobile would be more fun than Atlanta, although I am not sure if they have an international airport. Does anyone know? And it's not too far from Florida.....

But having a conference there might even be sponsored or underwritten by the museum and local universities as well as whatever Roman history organizations want to get involved. Might even get some of the noted authors to come and show their books, have a signing, which would draw people to the conference who might otherwise not come.....

I think they even allow d'Yankees in Alabama now!

Aye,

Mobile sounds right for some reason. Not sure about the international airport. As for not far from Florida, that's true, but I'm on an island along the eastern coast, so it will still be a drive for me. I'm keeping my eye on this event, and if it happens, then I'll be heading over there for it.

Cheers,

The Higgins Armory Museum's touring "Age of Armor" exhibit was in Mobile in 2004, but I can't think of the name of the museum down there.

WOW! I can't believe that someone is considering an event of this caliber in the southern US. GREAT! I might actually get to attend since it's closer to Ga. than most other happenings. I checked on Mobile as far as airports. There is Mobile Regional Airport but no International.Down "south" there is a saying-"Everything goes through Atlanta",which is true. Mobile's only a short hop from Atlanta.Don't see any museums that might be of interest in this subject, though.Andy Smile

Say, when is Romandays 2006? You could start at an event like that, close to Washington (& airport). I was hoping I could swing by there this Summer anyway and I could do a lecture on the Roman navy. My PhD would be almost done by then.
Greets!

It would be great to meet you at last!

Thank you for asking: Roman Days is June 3-4 2006 at Marietta Mansion:

Even have a URL, to which, btw, I can add other Roman Days events.
