New Fullum and Scabbard

Quote:Hi Jyrki, I hate the long thin grips too. For my hands a grip of 9-10cm is long enough. Most roman grips had this length too.

Tell you what, you can hold the sword if I can try on your new helmet

Yes, this is the way the grips must have been! I too may have a nice spatha coming soon Tongue !!

They ranged from about 76 to 96 mm, most of them being somewhat in mid 80s.

Well, unfortunately my small hands are still 10cm across, so the Roman hilt would not be good for me. The one on my Alectus seems right though.

Marcvs after looking at the other plates that are the same, They are different and possibly made by a different hand. I had thought that they could have been done even with dies that were just the figure/shield ect but again they are different. Unlike belt plates were you can see one die was used. I have only found the Oak leaf pattern was possible done with a die. I think in my mind this would make sense as I can do any pattern found without the need to resort to dies, plus the extra Denarius you can earn by saying this is the only one like it   but as with anything they could have used a die on popular impressions just more finds will be needed to see this Big Grin

I just got the actual swords in my hands and it's as nice as it looks in the pictures! The hilt fits my hand very well and is very strong. I'm very impressed by the solid hilt construction!

The repoussé is very well done. It takes a lot of skill to get repoussé as regular and clean as this!

Thanks again Tony, it's a fantastic piece! Big Grin

Thanks Marcvs   The hilt needs to be solid no loose bits. The pommel nut is put on the way it should be, but it does not compress the handle down like a normal rivet would do, hence the handle is glued to the tang, the Kukri I am restoring is the same glue was the thing that made it work and the riveted plate just keeps the handle in place. The nut is copied from a origonal I have.

Here they are before the going on the scabbard.

And the first fit to see if the plates go on right and to check the sizes ect for the hangers and guttering retainer.
Again Marcvs thanks for letting me do this and I am over the moon that it was what you were after Big Grin D

Tony,

Fantastic work, yet again. I think that deserves another laud point.

What animal did the bone come from? I do not recognise it and would love to know what it is.

Jef,

You must be a very happy man!
