Beneficiarii Equipment

Hello all,

I recently penned a short article for our group website on the beneficiarii, with some speculation as to how they may have been equipped in the first century AD:

We are only just starting our research in this area, so any feedback would be most appreciated.

*I realise that some readers will have trouble seeing the inages. Our webmaster is aware of this and is looking at the issue. On my own computer, they only seem to work with IE, not Mozilla.

Tim. I was just looking at your equipment on your group web, I'm not absoloutely familiar with the Cancellaria relief however correct me if I'm wrong. I read that you mention the soldier on the left in the picture holding the shield as being in connection with the Beneficiarii standard. Is this correct for as I look at it the standard or lance appears to be held by the one on the left just out of picture, and most interesting there is the Cornacoppia involved in this one wonders why.

Thanks for the comment.

However - have a look at the attached image. I'm convinced that the lance is held by the figure with the buckler. The cornucopia is held by the figure to the left of him.

That may be right Byron however it's the fact of it being amongst a group of soldiers, then what's the guy on the left of the cornucopia holding for these two appear to be accompanied by these soldiers.
