Video-Documentaries About Ancient Greece, Warfare&Technology
#1
Greetings to everyone!

I decided to introduce you guys some nice and good documentarys.

Theres a huge amount of documentarys available over the internet and on DVD. Most of them are realy bad and historicaly a piece of pooh pooh. Urrgs that stinks.
But since 10 years, the visual documentation quality is encreasing possitive step by step. Editorial departmens are making a better job. More and more, the world understands finaly, that the ancient world wasn't a primitive period. The totaly opposite is the fact. Actually, we have to rethink about our whole indoctrinated and disoriented knowledge. For a deeper journey into yourself, follow my youtube-channel.
http://www.youtube.com/user/1AGESILAOS1

Some of you guys will already know the one or the other movie presented here. I have 650GB of documentarys stored in my archive. I will upload the best of them from time to time.

New movies will be listed allways at the end.

I will highlight new additions with green text for one week or so.

Maybe we can create at this way a nice visual archive, to the often discussed topics. Feel free, to add your personal favorites, but please name your video correctly and accurate, so that it can be found easily with the integrated search. You can send me furthermore a PM with your favorite video and link.

Annotation to these documentarys and their content
Yes, you will find historically discrepancies. The movies do not replace the need to read books and informing yourself for years if you want to dive acute into the matter. If you want to be able to seperate for example, exageration from a historicaly detectable source, you have to consult the true ancient sources. At the end you must be allways open-minded and willing to correct your studys, and update them to new conclusions and discoverys. In the first lane, those documentarys are entertainment.

Enjoy,

Cheers!

-Agesilaos

Too good. May I suggest the addition of academic titles which have "how to information" as well. My first offering would be:

RUTGERS UNIVERSITY, DEPT. OF CLASSICS Text & Textile: An Introduction to Wool-Working for Readers of Greek and Latin
Susan Edmunds, Prudence Jones and Gregory Nagy
[url:1ap5rmzl]http://classics.rutgers.edu/text_textile/textile1.htm
Text & Textile is not an instructional video. Textile techniques are clearly demonstrated to help the viewer understand their metaphoric significance. The DVD does contain supplementary material to help those interested in learning to spin or weave find the information they need.

The DVD Text & Textile: An Introduction to Wool-Working for Readers of Greek and Latin demonstrates the process of turning wool into cloth using ancient tools and techniques.

The DVD contains supplementary material for classroom and general educational use, including information for those wanting to learn to spin or weave using ancient techniques. Running time: 30 minutes.
ISBN: 0-9759617-0-5. At US$30 thats only a dollar a minute.

John,
When I was 12 and I really wanted something that required cash to pay for (like saving for my first bicycle, a new toy or whatever) I found work. Newspaper delivery was my mainstay for a couple of years but then I offered to do things like dog walking, raking leaves and mow lawns for neighbours. I opened a bank account to keep the cash out of my hot hands. Its amazing that when you tell people you have a goal that you are saving for how often they will find even small jobs or tasks they don't want to do, but will pay someone else to do. Only two rules apply:

1) No job too small.
2) Where there is a will there is a way.

Before too long you'll have the stuff you want.

Don't dis' yourself John. That is impressive. You are only 13, and you have set yourself a goal most adults would, shy away from. I can only commend you and tell you that you are on the right track. I know you are in a rush to have these things but it sounds like you have made an excellent start already Big Grin lol:

The Battles B.C. series on the History Channel was extremely disappointing... a bunch of facts you already know interspersed with flat-out falsehoods that are demonstrably untrue, and some cartoonish violence thrown in to please the rabble.

It's one thing to make shallow, superficial documentaries on ancient history... but it's another thing to make downright amateurish mistakes and let them slip by the editing room... for example, "Hasdrubal was Hannibal Barca's older brother," and "the Gauls sacked Rome during the 3rd century BC."

It's awfully hard to enjoy a documentary series when you notice inaccuracies flying into your ears left and right.

Absolutely- The Spartans is phenomenal.

I would add these other PBS documentaries:

Athens- the dawn of democracy

The Minotaur's Island

All presented and written by Bettany Hughes- these are absolutely the most outstanding ancient civilization documentaries I've ever seen- definitely not History Channel junk LOL Each of these, including the Spartans, is available on DVD from PBS actually and I think well worth the cost.
