Pacorus
#1
Does anyone know where I can find the story about the battle and death of the Parthian king Pacorus? Marc Antony fought the Parthians in Syria and defeated them with the help of his slingers. Pacorus was killed by a slingstone.
Thanks
The reference you want is Cassius Dio 49.20, available here:
The text does not make it clear that it was actually a slingshot which killed him, but the slingers were certainly instrumental in his death.
In my book "Prosographische Studien zur Geschichte des Partherreiches auf der Grundlage antiker literarischer Ãœberlieferung". Just take a breath , I found on his death the following references Plutarch Ant. 34; Plutarch Crass. 33; Strabo XVI 2,8; Ruf. Festus XVIII; Eutrop. VII 5; Frontin. Strat. I 1,6.
