Lafe Event in the USA, Live Weather
#1
Well, seems a bunch of our fellow Roman reenactors from USA and Canada are getting a taste of weather...

Live weather at Lafe, satellite image with weather superimposed... and a decent satellite image of the fort from a few years ago..

http://www.wunderground.com

or specifically... pardon the long URL

Argh, I thought the URL brought you to a zoomed image.

How to find the fort:
Locate Lafe in the middle of the image
Lafe is at the intersection of 135 and 34
Zoom in one click at a time to keep your bearings.
When the street names pop up locate VALLEY DRIVE
It's NW from the intersection of the two highways
Follow Valley Drive north.
It ends at some trees
Just north of that is a small square
That's the Castrum! In a brownish field..

Of course someone should bury a chest full of broken gear there before the Fort is abandoned!

And some broken barbarian shields in the ditch.

Despite the very "period" British weather, good times were had by all and for the first time the Barbarians were unsuccessful in either seizing the fort or climbing the walls except for one or two which were quickly dispatched; all at the mere cost of eight auxilia, whom were made full Roman Citizens just prior to their expiration. Big Grin

The Celt village and fields were burned and its members dispersed.

The Celt village and the tavern can not be seen either from the satellite photo, but I am happy to report that the home made brew of Celtic beer was most tasty.

Cheers!!

Next year the Romans won't be so lucky taking the Celtic camp. We won't leave for lunch, we'll have it brought to us! That way when you march at lunchtime to take it, we'll be there. It was a truly awesome event. I was one of the few to jump the walls, and I must say, fighting at Lafe is something truly unique. I can't wait to face off against all you Romans next year!!

And I was waiting there, gladius in hand.

All in all a truly awesome event. The rain did put a (don't kill me!) damper on things, but it added a level of unrivaled realism to the entire event. The only bad part was getting the motorized chariots out of the mud, but the Lafe staff were there to help the whole, especially Carl and his tractor. I will certainly be returning next year!
