Optio hastile (ball-topped staff of office)
#1
Hi, Can anyone please tell me how to make or where to buy a Hastile
( ball - topped staff of office ) for my Optio Impression ?

If anybody has any close up Photos of the Hastile that would be great .

Thanks ,

Julius .

You can simply take a wooden shaft and attach a wooden bowl to it, and maybe a but-spike. Otherwise you could try to get a brass bowl for it, which you could find at the home deconration department at the stair supplies.

How about modifying a round doorknob and using the spike of of a flag stand? Just some thoughts from a guy that thinks cheap. Smile
Juan Santell, no Roman name yet. Picking a name is very important and something that should not be done hastily or without much thought.

Like a great big shilleleagh? Sorry, that's the image that came to mind. Smile

We were talking about that today. Could you not fit a wood sphere of whichever wood you like, onto a staff of smiliar composition and still be accurate?

A friend of me writes his PhD thesis about the roman Optio! After sculpural evidences the Hastile must be as long as the Optio (i´m nearly 2m tall, and so i have a very long staff!). And there is another sign of his rank, the Fingerring.
