Please pardon me if this has already been beat to death but its a topic that interests me and I would like to do some more reading on.
From what I have gathered so far, even various Parthian, Sassanid sources talk of sending Roman prisoners extremely far east (the exact location I forget) but would it be logical that perhaps they moved further? Some sources even claim they stuck together and farmed the lands etc and married Chinese natives etc.
The main book I got this out of was Shadows in the Desert by Dr. Kaveh Farrokh, are there any other readings talking of this anomaly (or at least to me it is). TIA and all the best, Jon
