Romanarmy.com Newsletter March 2008
#1
Hi all,
Just a quick newsletter, occassioned by our old friends at Ezboard, where the first iteration of RAT was hosted. 'Old guard' RATers who were signed up at that site will have received a message saying that 'Romanarmytalk has moved to Yuku...' That's not entirely true. Ezboard and all RAT bits that were still on it have moved to Yuku, but Romanarmytalk is where it has been over the last three years @ http://www.romanarmy.com/rat . So by all means, throw that Yuku email away.

2. In the (slow) process of moving forward to RAT v3, we have integrated the user databases of RAT and Romanarmy.com. This means that with one username and password, you are automatically logged in both at the forum and at the main site. This makes it much easier for all RATers to contribute to articles and other plans at Romanarmy.com. More to follow.
In the same vein, I have hugely expanded our hosted storage space for members. Every RAT member now has a 10MB storage (for free!) right here on Romanarmy.com. The overall limits have been expanded so that (in theory) all members can fill that space up as well. More storage space is available on request and if needed.
The maximum size of images has been doubled from 256 to 512kb. Images should really not need to be larger than that.
To limit bandwidth usage, I have altered forum permissions so that only registered and logged-in members can see and download images this way.
This should eliminate for members to look for hosting of images elsewhere. We do ask that you ensure that copyright for the photos is yours or that you have obtained copyright elsewhere. It's unlikely to cause trouble, but still...
Short instruction on how to add an image to your post:
- Step 1: In a New Post or Reply (this does not work in Quicky Reply mode), click the 'Add an Attachment' button below the posting screen.
- Step 2: Click Browse to find the image you want to upload or type the path directly in the text box.
- Step 3: Click 'Add Attachment'
Provided the image was smaller than 512kb, it should now be attached to your post.

3. The next issue of Ancient Warfare magazine, about 'Victory and Defeat' will go in print at the end of this month. This will be the last issue for anyone who subscribed from issue one. Renewal options for both one and two years are now available at the Ancient Warfare site. Renewals can be purchased at any time and will automatically be added at the end of your current subscription.
Ancient Warfare has also launched a pilot episode of the Ancient Warfare podcast - the first internet audio show about warfare in the Ancient World! Click to subscribe in iTunes or get the RSS feed. We'd love to hear your responses and are considering a question and answer show. So if you have any questions or suggestions for topics, let us know!

4. Finally, there's an addition to the Rules of RAT. We're making de jure what was a rule de facto: what is know as 'group politics' are now officially not allowed. The infighting among reenactment groups is a nasty enough phenomenon in the real word, but we will not allow it to fester on RAT.

That's all for now.

See you on RAT!
