I think we need to split the Roman choice of sword to before Scipio took Cartagena, and after. I'm asking about before Cartagena, which it seems would make the choice the xiphos.

By then the Romans fought with the scutum in mind, and it seems the stab was a prevalent technique. I'm no longer convinced the kopis would be in use by them at that time.
