Is this suitable for a late roman impression?
#1
Salve!

Please don`t shoot me  ! Just found this from the site of ARMAE:

http://www.armae.com/antiquite/1134AC125.htm

Is there any way I could use this for my late roman impression? I know there is only sculptural evidence and this lone pic in the Osprey`s "Praetorian Quard" depicting Maxentius`s officer...

I'm already loading my scorpio...

No, really just kidding. Even though it has been widely argued if it ever existed in the roman times, I see no problem with fitting it to the late roman period... there are finds of this kind of armour from earlier greek times, and those depictions on columns- I don't see why the romans would have abandoned this kind of armour if it was used. I think it would fit to an impression of a high ranking officer because they were the ones with the money to buy such an expensive piece of armour.

You really don't seem to have shortage of money! Big Grin

The muscles don't do really justice to the Greek or Roman archetype of beauty... Looks more like the torso of a bodybuild XIth century guy
"O niurt Ambrois ri Frangc ocus Brethan Letha."
"By the strenght of Ambrosius, king of the Franks and the Armorican Bretons."
Lebor Bretnach, Irish manuscript of the Historia Brittonum.

I just thought that this could have been a "cheapo" solution to my upper-body armour problems  ...

What´s the problem with the chain maill?

Perhaps, if you have time, a leather squamata would be another solution for those "problems"

Iagoba, I have a chain mail shirt (as you can perhaps see from my avatar) . A leather squamata would look good indeed but, alas, I have not been able to find any commercial ones available...

I have given up hope of doing anything myself here in Finland  ! I have not been able to find rawhide for starters, there are simply no suppliers here that I know of...

We can get it but from dog chews, mine is made from leather scraps I had, if you want you could boil the scales in beeswax to tuffen the scales up.

Virilis,

I suspect my armor would not fit you but mine has been posted in the marketplace for some time now.
