Is there a good book on the Cilician pirates?

Nope, nor a bad one either, as far as I know. This may come close: N.K.Rauh, 'Who were the Cilician pirates', in Res Maritimae: the Cities on the Sea (Chicago 1998). For piracy in general Philip De Souza, Piracy in the Graeco-Roman World (Cambridge 1999) is a good starting point.

Morrison, J.S. & Coates, J.F. 1996: Greek and Roman Oared Warships. Oxford, pp. 117-119. I think

Good to see you back Christoph. Is it Dr. Christoph now?
I've got Christa's book here for review purposes. Seems interesting!

sorry, I seemed to have edited her out after realizing that the book is a bit too early for the Cilician pirates. But yes, interesting it looks! Shall have a look in more detail in a bit... for completeness' sake, the reference is/was/should be
Steinby: C. 2007: The Roman Republican Navy: from the sixth century to 167 BC. Helsinki And I promise, no more editing  As for the Dr thing. yes. but it embarasses me, so please, no Drs
