Interesting parallel!
Still, its based on a combination of the G and D handles above as per Miks. I just wish that we had more archeology to deal with here....

Avete Omnes,

We have a rare unobstructed view of the entire pomel, handle, and hilt on this ivory carving of Honorius.
Notice the finger groves below the eagle's head.

And here's another example (yes, the hilt is original)
But it's probably a parazonium.
