Republican pugio
#1
Hello,

I have read a interesting article in Gladius, the journal diriged by Thersites/ Fernando Quesada.

http://gladius.revistas.csic.es/index.p ... view/70/71

It's about a iberian tomb with some weaponry: one hispaniensis blade and a complet pugio or biglobular dagger.

The thing that have catch more my attention is that the metalic plates of handle and all the metalic frame of the scabbard are made in copper alloy (The autors say bronce), instead iron as usually in that moment or in roman period.

Probably the tomb was a iberian warrior, but the use of such romanizated panoply suggests to the autors a posible soldier in service to roman army.

Seen as a single find from Spain, that's a good point. But it's interesting that the other referenced pugiones seen in Cesar's link happen to be from all over Europe - wherever the Romans seem to have been present (Spain, Gaul, Germany, Britain).
