Yes, I did this gladius. this is basis on a blade found in algeria. The materials are so precious because this gladius will be for a legionary of X legio equestris (the famous x legio of Caesar)

Ahhh, a man after my own heart! I was hoping to have a suitable sword made for that period and legion!

I have the blade on order... Smile

Very nice! Did you make it yourself? Also, what have you used to replicate the ivory?

I presume that the scabbard is based upon the one found in Ljubljanica, Slovenia. Please see Patrick Barta's beautiful if pricey version of a Gladius Hispaniensis at:

the scabbard in fact is based on the repert of Ljubljanica,I have to finish whit the decoration of the small heads of snacks(very, very difficult to remake)

like I said in other my topics for replicate the ivory I use the horn of the reindeer. the base of this horn (the part near the head)is white and very strong.

Interesting. First time I've seen someone replicate ivory using anything but micarta, very cool and much more accurate as one does not have to justify using nonperiod materials.

never I could use not organic materials...like resins<or others....this special part of the horn of raindeer the specialist call "legal ivory" is the good compromise if you whant built someting similar to ivory and organic whitout finish in prison
