Romans and Egyptians
#1
Curious, when did the Romans first start interacting with Egypt? And how long did thier connections last? Is it even datable? (other than Antony/Augustus and Cleopatra, unless that is the specific timeframe of the relations!)
Are there any good references relating to this topic, also are there any good resources on Egyptian arms and armor anyone would like to suggest?
thanks
As I recall, the first recorded diplomatic contact is from the time of the second Ptolemy - shortly after the defeat of Pyrrhus at Beneventum. Don't recall off-hand where this date is from though. As I recall, the Ptolemies were out to stake their claims vis a vis various possessions such as Cyrene, and probably also to annoy their "friends" the Carthaginians.
Strategy
