Sarmatian scales - midrib?
#1
I was just perusing Osprey's Sarmatians 600BC-AD450. The final color plate shows two Sarmatians "in the service of the Late Roman army". The figure on foot is wearing a scale hauberk and the printed description specifically states, "scales with a central raised mid-rib, indicating metal rather than horn", although no archaeological reference is given.

There's been plenty of debate here on RAT in the past year, and I thought the consensus was that the only evidence of scales with midribs was in the context of lorica plumata.

Anyone care to weigh in?
