Happy New Year to all!!
We lit up our 13 wick oil lamp (copied from one held in the Archaeological Museum of Tarragona) for our New Years Eve party here in UK. It burned from 7.45 until 3 a.m. ( on a mixture of olive and vegetable oil, with a string wick)!! Musivarius http://www.romanarmy.com/rat/viewtopic.php?t=19886 does a similar one by the way (mine was bought second hand off another RMRS member). Cheers and have a wonderful 2008! Caballo

A very HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!
I'm glad there's a place on the net where I can talk about my Roman obsessions, and I'm grateful for all the the new friends I've made here. I hope 2008 will be a fantastic year for everyone!

AT THE END OF ALL THINGS
Farewell '07. Thy doom is at hand! Yet, what lies beyond Thy blighted shroud, Thy veil of death? When thou hast been laid to rest, And all that was wrought in thy time Passes with thee, What shall become of us? We that hath been carried by thee Through this corridor of time. I pray it is a Great Eagle. A mighty guardian To lift us above perils of flame and ash and shadow! The spirit of thine ending comes After a time of relative peace. Joy was found before this day. Now is a time of greyness And a sensation of uncertainty. However, I am thankful To be accompanied by good friends! Here, at the end of all things. by David Findlay [url:2qkgi22a]http://ethalenskye.deviantart.com/[/url] This poem was written by a friend of mine from Deviantart.com, and sums up perfectly my thoughts on the old and new year. Since I'm a big Tolkien fan, I love the Tolkien-esque overtones in the poem.
