Hi,

Just thinking that woolen based tunics & trousers would be a bit hot in a heatwave. Did they have the equivalent of shorts & tee shirt ?
Yes, of course, they wore linen tunics in summer and either linen trousers or no trousers at all (the lower legs protected by puttees).
Trousers are seldomly depicted on African late mosaics!
It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Were the tunics thigh length ? Short or long slieved ? Red or white ... just joking

Were puttees always worn when going without trousers ?
Always long sleeved and knee-length when belted.
The advantage of being a Late Roman is that you con done red or white tunics without worriing about it!
Puttees were not worn always but they appear consistently when soldiers or workers are depicted. Just for convenience if you had to walk throug rough terrain or bushes, I suppose!
