I should have asked this much earlier, but, better late than never. It is my understanding that the rivets in the center of the sheath hold in place something to protect the blade of the dolabra from the sheath. I inserted a strip of 1/8 inch thick felt, with the rivets driven through to secure it. Is that correct?

Oh! Never really thought of that. My rivets are small nails that go all the way through, and the cutting edge just rests on them. They shouldn't hurt it.

Yeah, being copper alloy I'd not expect it to hurt the iron and something like felt or wood would hold moisture, which definitely would be bad for iron...
