sigh. I just don't know which one to get. Got the ring belt, baldric, shield, late pugio, late spatha but don't have the right helmet to go with it. so which is better: Aux. Infantry 'E', Buch Helmet or the Von Gravert Helmet and who carries them in the USA?

I would definately go for the Buch/Aalen helmet Chuck!
It's a very good reconstruction with the added bonus of being able to add a horsetail plume!

Hi Chuck!
I have the old Deepeeka brass Niederbieber (von Graevert) helmet and in my opinion it has THE BEST bowl shape of all Deepeeka roman helmets I have seen yet! The only downside is the too big neck-quard but that shouldn`t be much of a problem for a armourer-wizard like you  ! New Deepeeka Buch helmet is quite good too but the bowl looks a bit shallow in my opinion, though...
The old & new auxiliary E helmets of Deepeeka are awful in my opinion. Look at them at the front-side and compare them to the original and you will see that the Deepeeka design was made for a giant Playmobil figure(maybe just for you  ). Hope this helps...

What do you mean Jyrki? When you look at the original, the cheek guards are not fastened. They would look the same as the Deepeeka one if they were.

The shape just isn`t right in my opinion, Ade, it looks "bucketish" :?

I have a series of good pics here of the Niederbieber, which I am not allowed to post... I´d rather go for the Buch helmet. Virilis is quite right. Or you wait a couple of months, until my new helmet series is out, which will give you some other choices for that period.
PM me, if you´d like to know more.

So instead of basing reconstructions on the original, we should base them on reconstructions we like the look of?

The new Deepeeka auxiliary E doesn`t look like the original helmet in my opinion, Jim! Chuck & Adrian; I have a 23" head, so "I am not a monster, I am a human being!!!!!!!!!!"

I also have a 23 inch head Jyrki
And why so Buch?
Not that I want to go late, but that might be worth adding to the collection!

I just cut out with my Dremel almost half of the neck quard of my Deepeeka helmet. In fact I will leave the sharp angles of the neck quard, it looks cool in my opinion  ! This helmet has a very good bowl shape and I can recommend it despite the obvious flaws it has...

Have you re-edged the guard Verilis?
I would modify the ears a bit, as the ones on my Face mask helm slice my ears, and also need shaping out..

No, at first I intended to do so but when I decided NOT to make the corners rounded I decided to leave it as it is for the time being...
