Thanks Matt - cold chisels work on mild steel surprisingly well. Just do not try to take off too much in one go!

Wow, classy work, PierPaolo. Barry, what is the end thickness of the blade you are working towards?

Very nice indeed PierPaolo. More inspiration!
Robert, this started out as 10mm thick bar, bit too thick for my liking but it is gradually reducing down to about 6 to 7mm thick, tapering off to about 1 to 1.5mm thick at the edges.

The first century ones I saw in Nijmegen were thinner then that, I recall. 5 mm on the blade you requested a picture of.

One thing the pictures may not have shown very well is that on most type 'B' blades, such as the Leeuwen blade, the midrib is not in any way upstanding and only exists as a result of the two grooves either side of the central area which by default becomes a midrib. In other words, on a type 'B' blade the midrib is carved out rather than upstanding.

Thanks for posting that up frater. You have saved me having to do a drawing by hand tonight and getting it scanned at work tomorrow. 8)

PierPaolo - yes it is very hard work! But watching the piece gradually take shape is really satisfying.
