Sorry to have been absent for a couple of weeks. I think you have done an excellent job - well done! A well deserved laud point has been added to your account. I have to say that I am also thrilled that you used the correct technique to decorate the sheath and grip plates as well.
As to tinning, I am still not sure that that would be accurate (see my and Maarten Dolmans' earlier comments), but I admit that as silvering MAY have featured on the original sheath then tinning could be acceptable in this particular case.

Anyway, well done overall. I have seen far too many dodgy interpretations of the Leeuwen dagger and sheath and your reconstuction can stand as an example to those who think that inaccurate reconstuctions acceptable.

It's a shame I won't be in Rome to see it in person but I am sure I will get the chance at some stage in the future.

It is only with assistance form the likes of yourself, Peroni, Brennivs, and a lot of other good people on the forum here that I managed to get a reasonable result. Without the input I would have got the blade profile incorrect, and probably blindly copied other reconstructions of the sheath and "punched" the decoration. I was actually surprised at how easy it was to produce the beading, although with hindsight I maybe should have used a slightly narrower brass rod to begin with.

I am still agonising over the tinning, and whilst I am convinced it would look good, I would really like to see the actual sheath "up-close" one day and then decide.

I will be at the RMRS Dover event in August Crispvs (and hopefully Colchester in October) so I hope to see you at one of those events!

A cutting disc can cut all metals hard or soft except that harder ones will wear the disc down faster. A bench grinder is no good to do this type of work so invest in the best grinder you can D

A bit on the expensive side, but it definitely gets the job done

I was looking at these for some applications but if you do the mid rib on a pugio you may need still to file or grind it on, then finnish with this type of machine
