The 300 Spartans Caught Stealing From The Ancient Romans
#1
This full page ad was in the Hollywood Reporter International Edition for the week of Nov 9 - 11

Warner Bros. Pictures
acknowledges and regrets that a number of the music cues for the score of "300" were derived from the music composed by Academy Award winning composer Elliot Goldenthal for the motion picture "Titus."

Warner Bros. Pictures has great respect for Elliot, our longtime collaborator, and is pleased to have amicably resolved this matter.

Ah yes, right you are Kate -- but the point was not to get caught.

Now I'm not sure how many people actually saw "Titus" in the theatre (guilty as charged  ) but that lack of popularity is probably the reason why no one noticed the musical "borrowing" until now.

Oh well -- I remember seeing the working print of "Blade Runner" at the NuArt Theatre in Santa Monica some years ago and they were using music from "The Planet Of The Apes" on that cut. This is a pretty common practice in Hollywood, though once you release the film you are supposed to change the music or give credit where credit is due.

No doubt Warner Bros. "thanked" Mr. Goldenthal quite handsomely.

Another cinematic example of greeks stealing from romans, in The 300 Spartans( 1962 ) Leonidas is seen wearing a roman legionarie's helmet in several scenes, and on the cover.
