CHARCOAL!

We managed to acquire some good bags of charcoal. Hate to burn it up!

Looks nice! Sometimes you can even tell what parts of the tree it was made from. I got one bag that was quite clearly made from hardwood flooring scraps. Still worked just fine.

To make life easier we usually prep our charcoal by cutting it up into roughly 3/4" chunks. It makes fire control easier if the parts are mostly the same size and small enough to pack together to provide a nice hot "bed".

Working with smaller bits.. absolutely!

But, it sure was nice seeing the large chunks. We usually toss the big chunks into the bread oven to heat it up. When its the right temp we shovel them out and into the brazier to cook lunch while the bread bakes and then into the forge. By that time the "logs" have broken up into smaller bits.

Looks like the stuff we used to get out in the far east in the sixties and seventies....
