Legio IX Hispana's multi purpose ruler

This is one of the several ways we measure for spacing and location without a ruler. No segmentata is alike because no one's fingers are alike

The first measurement is the location of the first rivet for the internal straps on a seg plate

The second measure is the distance between the two rivet holes

Each hole is located by eye approximately 1/8" (3.2mm) down from the edge of the plate

And use a cord for finding the center of a torso plate... mark the center, line up a finger tip on center and mark either side of the finger for the two holes.

You can use your fingers or a cord for every rivet hole on a segmentata.
