Very nice belts! But, um, why are they hooked in back? I thought the hooks went in the front.

I'm also a little curious what evidence there is for these belts being used by gladiators around the first century AD. They were commonly worn by Samnite warriors in the 4th to 3rd centuries BC, and maybe later (Dan D. will know!), but Samnite gladiators don't really have a lot of equipment similarity with their earlier namesakes. But I haven't researched gladiators!

Those belts are seen on many mosaics and staues, and clearly show they were closed at the back. And those also show this type of belt in de 2nd and 3rd century AD
