Latest figures are these:

About 2,700 structures destroyed, including 2,000 houses.

Seven people killed directly by fire.

Close to 400,000 acres burned.

The worst seems over, and the last few days have been blessedly moist and calm. Santa Anna winds will kick up this weekend, though, so we may see another spate of fires.

If arson is determined, and the perpetrators captured, the arsonists ought not be treated lightly. Some high level of homicide charges ought to be pressed. Somehow, though, these days, it seems like society gets the blame for the actions of individuals.
