Pankration
#1
Hi everybody! I want to learn pankration, but I can't find any schools near my house that teach it. If anybody knows, what are some of the techniques of pankration? (please provide visual references  )
Dan/Anastasios of Sparta/Gaius Statilius Rusticus/ Gaius Germanicus Augustus Flavius Romulus Caesar Tiberius Caelius (Imperator  <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt="" title="Twisted Evil" /> )

Dan, it looks like you are pretty young, so you have quite a few years ahead of you to learn (martial arts) Pankration. I would look into training in the followig disciplines, I feel they will give you the proper skill set for Pankration.... Judo, Boxing, and wrestling. Jim Arvaniti also wrote a good book on Pankrtation.

I saw that book, I'll ask for it for my birthday. A friend of mine knows ALOT of karate (I believe is based on pankration), so he could get me aquainted with martial arts

Ummm, karate is a far eastern martial art (Korea, Japan). Any overlapping techniques are most likely a common response to an attack. (Someone swings a weapon at me - I do this or that parry/block.)

Any martial arts training will help you learn another martial art. The discipline and commitment are common to all styles. If you learn to focus with one it will carry to another. Find a dojo and take a beginners course. It is disrespectful to the art to "fool around" with it. (Plus, you can get seriously hurt or killed.) Your friend will tell you the same thing. Get some skills and get sparring!
