Home Improvment

In my quest for purchasing land with the intent of building a small Villa, I have been re-working my basement into a more Roman-esque" theme. Been uttering several types of creative verbage since I started. Here is my almost finished arch:

Have plastered the walls and done a stucco-ish type finish.

Looks great, Wes...but in the second picture, you have the grips on your scuta a little off center?

Yep. Looks to me like you got the handles pushed way over to one side. Heh.

They stack nicely, though. Tongue

I'll bet you feel pretty secure behind it, though. (and if you need a snack during a looooong battle...)

Wes, what kind of form did you use to support the bricks while the mortar set?

I made the form from 1/8 tempered hardboard. The Dark brown really flimsy stuff. Works great for concrete forms too.

Hardboard on the edges, spaced with regular 2 x 4 or similar? Just asking...might want to steal your idea.

Yupper, sorry! I used 2 x 4's vertically in the opening. I also used #16 nails as a masonry tie, nailed into 2 x 4 framing for the arch. Added support was good! I did not take time to shape out a keystone, I just used brick.
