This weekend I inherited a perfectly serviceable hand-me-down ridge helm. The previous owner simply glued in foam for a liner. I've ripped that out and would like to re-line it properly. So what is "proper"? Should it have a leather suspension liner? Felt? Shearling? Let me know.
Many thanks!

Wot's shearling?
Best line the cheek and neck plates only if they are not lined already. Don't line the inside of the helmet, if it rusts you won't be able to clean it. Best use a felt skull cap of a finger's thickness, that cushions any blows but also absobs all the sweat on a hot day!

So just a removable felt cap? Can do.
Shearling, as in a sheep pelt with the wool left on.
