It's about 12" on the long side, and 10" around the curve. I have a 6" hole in it, but if you prefer a smaller boss, then scale it accordingly. The diameter of the pipe was 24", which happens to be just about the same size as a 55 gal oil drum, which I use to form commercial plywood scuta.

Make sure the inside edge of the cutout is very smooth. Whatever nicks and dings are there will transfer to the umbo. Also, the "legs" on the side should stand the whole thing up off your workbench far enough to allow the boss not to touch the tabletop.
