Demetrivs gas welding is just as strong so long as it does not get contaminated by air.They is no real stress at that point, unless you weld the tang onto the shoulders of the blade,so if you do this it would be better if you cut the tang down into the blade a little bit.But if the sword is not for combat it will be okay D
