Like many others, I never met him, but I always imagined from his posts that he was a splendid fellow. My condolences to his family and friends.

I only just read about this just then, on this page. And I thought the forum had been a little empty lately.

He was one of my favourite members here, a great passion for his interests, always very informative and witty, he just seemed like a truly great guy. Though not being a reenactor I never met him in the flesh - I could still tell his personality really shone on these forums.

He went out doing something he loved, which will not be said for all of us.

Very shocked and sad to hear the news and my prayers and thoughts go out to his family. Sad

I was informed just today from Stafanos about the sad news. Like many others I've never knew Paul personally, but from his post and our few discussions through PM's I was looking forward for the experience.
I'm certain that the Thespians will welcome him in their phalanx in Elysium.
A sponde to you Ariste.

I had the pleasure of knowing Paul on a number of occasions when he came in to give his usual enthusiastic, entertaining and absolutely educational dsplays to my students - as a Greek, Gladiator or Hoplite. The way that Paul could make himself at home so easily in so many different suits of armour was always amazing, along with his vast fountain of knowledge on any aspect of the kit he had on. Needless to say he impressed upon our students very well and their reaction to the news of his death was in itself a tribute to all that he had achieved and to what he brought to history. We also had the pleasure of hosting the First Ancient greek festival he organised in summer 2006, which was a great showcase for Paul's vision for re-enactments and his ability to bring so many different people together so well.
I think it would be a nice idea to pay respects to Paul in a way befitting a great warrior lost to us. I would be honoured to provide Watford Grammar School for Boys as a possible venue if you would feel a tribute to Paul would be a good way to pay such a tribute.

It is horrible to believe that any of you could die whilst bring to life the past, but as a school teacher i can definately say that what you people do does live on through the students and the public who see you all in action. That is a lasting tribute and I am sure Paul would be very pleased by the impact he has had already. If any of you feel that a festival in his honour would be a good idea please let me know. There is another thread under Events that is tentatively putting out feelers on this

Like others, I did not know him personally, but reading his posts here and on another group, he seemed like a very intelligent, funny, and nice gentleman. I wish I'd known him. My sincere condolences to his family.

Pauls funeral was held yesterday at the church he attended in his village of Heydon, the church was overflowing with his friends & family.
Many of the attendee's where from the re-enactment community & as asked for came in kit & formed an honour guard along the church path as Pauls casket was carried in.

It was a moving & fitting service & I suspect there where few dry eyes in the place.
