Reenacting Romes foundation period
#1
Hello
First of all forgive my ignorance, but is there any group that reenacts Romes' foundantion period?
If so, were can I see photos of it?
Do they have warriors? Vilanovan -type warriors?
Best regards

Although this is not ROMAN. But contemporary to what you are looking for, at least. And culturally similar, as far as attire and arms are concerned.

Maybe I'll start a Villanovan impression after I finish up a few more Bronze Age projects. Already got an antenna-hilt sword (not done yet, still needs antennae!) that would be appropriate,

Love to make one of those "poncho" cuirasses. Connolly says they're one piece, but he shows the neck opening as being way to small to fit the head through! So I'll have to have a closer look at the one in the University of Pennsylvania Museum, which is what he was basing his illustration on. Neat helmets, too! Of course, I'll need a lot more sheet bronze....

It's just not the most popular era for reenactors, for some reason! Oh, Deepeeka does offer a brass Villanovan shield which isn't half bad--does that get you started?

Thanks Ivan for the recommendation.
Matthew, I look forward to see your impression of a Villanovan warrior.
I believe that reenactment on these somewhat less seen periods could improve our understanding of them (through experiments).

Do you mean his Mycenaean Dendra armor?

That's even a couple centuries earlier than my Trojan War era stuff,

My Urnfield gear is about the closest to Villanovan in time and place:

Here's my main Bronze Age page, where you can find links to most anything else that I know of:
